"Is this not the kind of fasting I have chosen: To loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter- when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say; here am I.
If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.
The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

IWE Writers
Amy Bergey
I am 17 years old, and will go into 11th grade in high school this year. My younger sister, Abby, is 15, and my brother, Andrew, is 9. My parents are Lori and Dave. We have a dog named Charlie. At school I am on the volleyball team, the cheerleading squad, and my school's student council. My favorite subject is probably math. In the spring and summer I work at a nail salon, where I enjoy talking to all of the people that come in. In my free time I like to hang out with my friends. It has always been my dream to come to Africa, where I hope to live after college. I am so glad that God blessed me with this opportunity to visit you!

Lauren Kories
Hello! I am 17, I have two little brothers, and I live with my father. After this summer, I will be entering my senior year in high school. Many times you can find me either taking pictures with my camera, or see me reading a book for hours. I am also very happy to be a part of a church where I live. I have made many friends there, and through those friends I met Christ. I have been a lover of Christ for almost a year, and I can see all of the amazing things he does through me every day. I'm excited to have him working through me on this trip!

My heart has two homes: the USA and Africa. God gave me ten wonderful years in Tanzania with our kids, Matthew (25), Joanna (23), and Will, our Tanzanian son (26). Now, my husband, Darrell, and I live in the USA, where I teach grades 6,7, and 8. I love to write, draw, and work in my garden.

Alison Telly (Ally)
I am fifteen and I have a younger brother named Caleb. I go to Pennridge High School, where I hope to study to become an author or an astrophysicist. Writing takes up most of my spare time already, so perhaps that is the career for me! Now that it is summer I have lots of time to do things like hanging out with friends or going to the park. It is also fun to go swimming with my dog, Harley, in our pool. He is always the first to jump in the water, so my family throws his ball around and plays with him in the water. It is a lot of fun to take pictures of him, which is another hobby. I cannot wait to see you. It is so exciting that God has given me the chance to meet you this summer!

Diane Telly.
I am married and have two children. We live in Pennsylvania in the United States. I work as a tax collector in my local town. We are not like the tax collectors of the Bible, we mostly keep accounting records of taxes paid. In my free time I enjoy walking and reading. I have played a lot of soccer in my life, but am getting older now, so I don’t play very much anymore. It was during my years at college that I learned what it meant that Christ died for me. Since then, I have been so very thankful to have God in my life. He has blessed me with a family that I love. Thank you for sharing your lives with us and for welcoming us to visit you at your school.
